[39.3] CARMELITES AT THE MET

Fabulous production from the Met in New York last night of Poulenc's 'Dialogues des Carmelites', with Patricia Racette (soprano), Felicity Palmer (mezzo-soprano), James Courtney (bass), Jonathan Welch (tenor) and others. Part of the Opera on 3 season. Unfortunately you'll have to wait for a re-broadcast to hear it again, but Radio 3 commendably offers many of its regular programmes as internet feeds for 7 days after they appear. NFE readers will particularly enjoy 'Mixing It' and 'Late Junction'. There are some Amazon soundclips for the 1999 EMI Classics recording of Poulenc's stirring work ("a kind of French apocalyptic Wagner" - Gregory L. Fox) with the Paris Opera Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Pierre Dervaux.
